compassion.  that's how & why.

I’ve trained in many psychotherapy modalities, like CBT, IFS, EMDR, and together they influence my work. But the foundational platform that I bring everyday is, essentially, compassion.  A flavor of compassion that includes “unconditional positive regard” to use the words of Carl Rogers. It might be Christian agape love. When it flows through me, it feels really, really good. An immense gift from my job.  It evolves over time, this valuable gift.  Because at first, a therapist inevitably has her judgments and rigidities.  But as she works with people, as she sees first-hand the deep pain that surfaces as hurtful behavior, and as she sorts through her own beliefs and limitations, she’s humbled.  There’s only one healthy place to turn - compassion.
Self-compassion.  I’m trying my best.  I’d like to help more.  My heart's in the right place.
That soon turns into seeing the same in others.  You’re trying.  You’d like more.  Your heart’s in the right place.
When I know that for another person, when I’m there feeling that compassion-unconditional positive regard-agape love within the sacred space of our healing room or zoom, it translates.  The energy changes.
The compassion that heals, heals.
A recurring regular dose of it can be the supplement that transforms everything.
Changes thoughts, opens hearts, relaxes bodies.
Heals.
Helps.
Makes a life better.  Makes a reality better.
And that's the whole point.
